A COFFEE BRAND ROOTED IN HERITAGE & TRADITION

What began as a humble dream in 2004 has grown into a coffee brand rooted in passion, authenticity and family. TERBODORE’s journey started with a simple goal: roasting great tasting coffee while embracing the slower moments in life. From a small roastery in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands to becoming a household name in coffee, the past two decades have been filled with challenges, growth and memorable connections.

With every step, we’ve remained true to our roots, honouring the past while looking to the future. And as we continue expanding into new territories, our journey becomes more than just business; it’s a reflection of who we are as a family.

TER - BO - DORE

The origin of TERBODORE’s name is deeply rooted in family history, going back several generations. Founder Marian Macaskill chose to name her new coffee roasting company after the farm she grew up on, nestled near Worcester in the picturesque Western Cape. It embodied a blend of three important names:

TER from her father Tercy
BO from her grandfather’s nickname Boy
DOR from her aunt, Dorita.

While the name held sentimental value, it was a Great Dane named Sultan who gave the brand its personality. When the Macaskills moved to their roastery in Curry’s Post, Sultan, a puppy who they inherited with the farm, became an unexpected star, charming visitors with his playful spirit.

The gentle nature of the Great Dane resonated with customers, who began referring to it as “the coffee with the dog.” Sultan’s charm made the brand easy to remember, and the Great Dane logo became a symbol of the adventure, fun and comfort that TERBODORE represents.

THE PLACES WE CALL HOME

The original home of TERBODORE in Curry’s Post is still operating to this day with the roastery and coffee bar a hive of activity. Travellers between Durban and Gauteng often make detours off the highway to visit, further boosting TERBODORE’s reputation and reach.

In 2011 a second roastery was established in Franschhoek and a few years later the opportunity arose to open a café closer to the heart of Franschhoek.
